چکیده

This article is concerned with a version of photoacoustic computed tomography, that uses line detectors (instead of point-like ones) for the recording of induced acoustical data. The three dimensional imaging problem, consisting in reconstructing the unknown density function from recorded data, is reduced to a series of two dimensional problems: First, the initial data of the two dimensional wave equation has to be recovered from lateral boundary data. In a second step, the classical two dimensional Radon transform is inverted. We discuss uniqueness and stability and compare frequency domain reconstruction formulas for the wave inversion problem.

Mathematical Challenges Arising in Thermoacoustic Tomography with Line Detectors

Thermoacoustic computed tomography (thermoacoustic CT) has thepotential to become a mayor non-invasive medical imaging method. Inthis paper we derive a general mathematical framework of a novel mea-suring setup introduced in [5]. It takes measuring data of line detectorsand offers better imaging resolution than conventional approaches basedon point-data approximation. We...

Fast Reconstruction Algorithms for the Thermoacoustic Tomography in Certain Domains with Cylindrical or Spherical Symmetries

We propose three fast algorithms for solving the inverse problem of the thermoacoustic tomography corresponding to certain acquisition geometries. Two of these methods are designed to process the measurements done with point-like detectors placed on a circle (in 2D) or a sphere (in 3D) surrounding the object of interest. The third inversion algorithm works with the data measured by the integrat...

Fast System Matrix Calculation in CT Iterative Reconstruction

Introduction: Iterative reconstruction techniques provide better image quality and have the potential for reconstructions with lower imaging dose than classical methods in computed tomography (CT). However, the computational speed is major concern for these iterative techniques. The system matrix calculation during the forward- and back projection is one of the most time- cons...

Improving tangential resolution with a modified delay-and-sum reconstruction algorithm in photoacoustic and thermoacoustic tomography.

Spatial resolution in photoacoustic and thermoacoustic tomography is ultrasound transducer (detector) bandwidth limited. For a circular scanning geometry the axial (radial) resolution is not affected by the detector aperture, but the tangential (lateral) resolution is highly dependent on the aperture size, and it is also spatially varying (depending on the location relative to the scanning cent...

Thermoacoustic tomography with detectors on an open curve: an efficient reconstruction algorithm

Practical applications of thermoacoustic tomography require numerical inversion of the spherical mean Radon transform with the centers of integration spheres occupying an open surface. Solution of this problem is needed (both in 2-D and 3-D) because frequently the region of interest cannot be completely surrounded by the detectors, as it happens, for example, in breast imaging. We present an ef...
